APAO, SSG host Intercollegiate Battle of the Bands; ABCollege rockers places second

The Andres Bonifacio College Alumni and Public Affairs Office in cooperation with the Supreme Student Government recently hosted an intercollegiate battle of the bands entitled “Rock in Peace: The Electric Battle” held last November 29, 2010 at the Amando B. Amatong Civic Center, College Park, Dipolog City.

Six bands from five different schools and colleges of the city wowed the crowd with their renditions of alternative, pop, and blues hits. Emerging as winners of the said musical competition are: Euterpeans Band of the Dipolog Medical Center, champion; ABCollege rockers Carrot nga Pula, 1st runner-up; and Sustauroo Band of Saint Vincent’s College, 2nd runner-up.  The winners received cash prizes and trophies. The other participating bands are D’ Aquanotes of the Dipolog School of Fisheries, Against Betrayal of Saint Vincent’s College, and Wild Intro of STI Dipolog.

“This is the first time in ten years or so that the Andres Bonifacio College hosted such event,” said Engr. Jefferson S. Manrique, OIC of the Alumni and Public Affairs Office and Chairman of the Rock In Peace Committee. “There are so many aspiring musicians out there who need an avenue in honing their musical skills. A competition like this (Electric Battle) is just one of such avenues,” he added. Being a music enthusiast himself, Engr. Manrique organized several band competitions starting in 2007 which was participated by students of Andres Bonifacio College. This is the first time groups from other schools were invited.

Three distinguished personalities composed the panel of judges of the said musical competition. They were: AlterEgo Band lead guitarist Antonio Dalumpines, member; Station Manager Jett Opilac of DXAA 92.5 FM, member; and musician and entrepreneur Engr. Juan D. Quines, chairman.

With the success of the “Rock In Peace: The Electric Battle” Intercollegiate Battle of the Bands 2010, the Rock In Peace Committee is already planning yet another contest early next year, this time for high school students from the different secondary schools of Dipolog City.
