ABCollege to host 13th National Physics Conference, signs MOA with SPVM

The Andres Bonifacio College will host the 13th Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) National Physics Conference on October 20-22, 2011. The said event will be held at the Graduate and Professional Schools Building. Physics researchers, educators, students, and enthusiasts from all over the Philippines will converge under one roof to discuss the latest physics researches and other physics updates.

The main objectives of the said conference are to provide secondary and tertiary physics teachers and researchers from the private and government academic and research institutions of the country a venue for learning content instruction, pedagogical techniques and updates of the current state of physics research and education; to assist and to encourage starting young researchers to do productive and relevant basic physics research; to provide an active and dynamic medium for exchange of ideas and experiences whereby the members of the Association can improve and upgrade their knowledge of physics and teaching of physics to their respective students; and to provide a platform by which current research and development (R&D) in physics can be discussed and shared by leading experts from around the world.

The participating students will also have the chance to hear and meet world-renowned physicists of the country and from all over the world. The SPVM conferences have been frequently visited by experts and researchers from Japan, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States. Aside from that, worthy researches will have the chance to be published in the conference proceedings and will be presented during the conference.

An estimated two hundred fifty participants including educators, presenters, and researchers will flock this October at the ABCollege’s newest edifice, which has now become the institution’s landmark primarily due to its beauty, magnificence, and imposing clock tower. The Graduate and Professional Schools Building, which will be fully functional just months before the forthcoming conference, will house a mini theatre, the main library, state-of-the-art audio-visual rooms, and air-conditioned classrooms for the School of Law and the Graduate School as well as fully-furnished rooms for the School of Business Management Education and the School of Education.

With the Memorandum of Agreement signed last February 22, 2011, the Andres Bonifacio College and the Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao formally closed a deal to work hand in hand for the success of the said event. The College being the host will cater to the needs of SPVM in terms of venue, accommodation, food, logistics, and other services. The SPVM in turn will be in charge of much of the work and will provide financial assistance to ABCollege for the smooth operation of the conference. Engineer Jefferson S. Manrique, Officer-In-Charge of the Alumni and Public Affairs, was appointed as the Convention Director. His main task is to ensure the smooth preparation and operation of the assigned committees before and during the conference proper.

The SPVM is a group of physics educators, researchers, and students who organized themselves to strengthen physics research and education in the Philippines. Its headquarters is at the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City. Among its notable founders, officials, and members are highly respected and multi-awarded Filipino physics educators and researchers who have dedicated themselves to uplift physics instruction in the country.
