ABCollege Soccer Varsity and Chess Teams Nab Championship Titles

The ABCollege Soccer Team took home the Championship title in the Regional Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) recently held on February 5-8, 2015 at Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. The games were played at the Dao Sports Complex in a home and away match up.

The Pagadian’s team 1-0 victory in Game 1 of the match up proved no help when the ABCollege Soccer Team took a decisive win in the Game 2 by scoring two goals against none. The first goal was made by Ian Paluca and the winning goal was delivered by the striker Mark Niñolas.

The team is composed of the members of the ABCollge Soccer Varsity team and some players from Dipolog Medical Center. The ABCNian soccer players are: Junyl Catamaan, Rex Vinoya, Gian Cañoneo, JP Cañoneo, Michael Cagatan, Roniel Fernandez and Mark Niñolas.

The team is under the guidance of Head Coach Bong Balbuena and Assistant Coach Bobby Palma. Because the said victory, the team will proceed to the Iloilo this coming April to compete in the National PRISAA Games.

The ABCollege Men and Women teams dominated the Regional PRISAA Games held in Dao, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur by emerging as the champion in their both respective divisions defeating Pagadian and Zamboanga teams.

Meanwhile, the ABCollege chess team (or #teamcheckmate as they call themselves) took away the coveted title after playing with the Pagadian and Zamboanga City teams in a single-round robin match up system.

Jahlil Ron C. Ruiz and Evaristo S. Tizon Jr., both from Andres Bonifacio College, were the players for the men’s division while Chloe V. Abonado and Geraldine M. Cabucos of Andres Bonifacio College and Grace Mediatrix T. Corot of Saint Joseph College of Sindangan, Inc. played in the women’s division.

The teams are under the supervision and mentorship of Mr. Roseller V. Reginan Jr., of Andres Bonifacio College and Ms. Mary Faith N. Alinga of Saint Joseph College of Sindangan, Inc.  as coach of the men and women and women teams, respectively.
