ABCollege scores big wins in journalism, science tilts, qualifies for national level

The Andres Bonifacio College has once again scored big wins in two recently held regional level competitions.

In the Regional Schools Press Conference held last December 12-14, 2011 in Zamboanga City, Alphabet Soup, the official school organ of the ABCollege

The proud winners of the Regional Press Conference with their adviser Mrs. Marlie M. Cadavedo pose with their trophy. The Alphabet Soup emerged as 2nd Best School Paper during the said regional tilt.

Elementary Department,  emerged as a big winner as it placed 2nd among the Best School Papers in the English Category. Eight delegations from the Zamboanga Peninsula fiercely competed with each other. Fifteen outstanding school organs were initially selected. Long-time Alphabet Soup Adviser Mrs. Marlie M. Cadavedo was jubilant over the school paper’s latest feat as she never expected the Alphabet Soup to win in the said contest because the school papers from the other schools were really very good and were also very colorful. However, the black and white entry of the College won the hearts of the judges for its simplicity, significance of the articles published, and the clarity of the page lay-out.

Budding young journalists also brought home the bacon as they won in their respective categories. Maedy R. Tepacia, a Grade VI pupil, garnered the 2nd prize in Editorial Writing, English Category. She also took the 1st prize in the special event in Editorial Writing given by the Zamboanga City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat. Fifth Grader Amee Gwen V. Rufo placed 3rd in Editorial Cartoon Filipino. Other special event winners were Sixth Graders Willa Mae J. Villagracia and Wesley Orson T. Sorronda who won the 3rd place in Editorial Writing in Filipino and the consolation prize in Newswriting in English, respectively. The top three winners of the said regional writing tilt are qualified to the National Press Conference which will be held some time in April this year in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

The Regional Science Competition winners and their coaches pose with the College President Mr. Sancho S. Amatong (seated) and VPAA Mrs. Nellie R. Saberon (6th from back row) during the group's courtesy call at the President's Offfice.

Meanwhile, 2012 opened with a bang for the College as 13 talented science questers from its Elementary Department bagged major awards in the Regional Science Competition held last January 6-8, 2012 in Zamboanga City.  The top two winners of the said competition will compete at the National Science Competition which will be held in Baguio City on February 10-11, 2012. They will be accompanied by their respective coaches and parents.
