ABCollege celebrates 71st Foundation Day

Despite the heavy rain, the Andres Bonifacio College successfully celebrated its 71st Foundation Day last Wednesday, November 30, 2011. The Honorable City Mayor of Dipolog Evelyn T. Uy graced the event with her presence.

Straight from Zamboanga City and without enough rest, the lady mayor proceeded to ABCollege to deliver her keynote speech during the Commemoration Program which was held at the Amando B. Amatong Civic Center to a crowd of enthusiastic College officials, faculty, employees, staff, alumni, and students. Mayor Uy, who finished her Master of Public Administration degree from ABCollege last March 2011, was also the Guest of Honor and Speaker of the Alumni Reunion and Homecoming which immediately followed after the said program.

With the theme Fostering Peace and Prosperity: Every Citizen’s Responsibility, this year’s Foundation Day Celebration was highlighted by the Alumni Sportsfest which kicked off last November 12, 2011, the Manila Concert Choir Show last November 26, 2011, and the Alumni Reunion and Homecoming which was sponsored by the Andres Bonifacio College Alumni Association, Incorporated (ABCAAI). Accentuating this year’s homecoming are the unveiling of ABCAAI’s first major project in partnership with the school administration and the awarding of the 2011 Most Outstanding Alumna Award.

Mrs. Rosemarie Patangan Miranda, the Civil Registrar of Dipolog City and the present President of the Zamboanga del Norte Press Club, was presented the said award for her achievements and invaluable contributions to the local print and broadcast media. She is the daughter of the late Reinerio A. Patangan who was one of the composers of the ABCollege Hymn and former bandmaster of the College. A consistent honor student during her time, Mrs. Miranda obtained her English, Political Science, and Law degrees from the Andres Bonifacio College.

The Most Outstanding Alumni Award is conferred annually to any ABCollege Alumni who has made a great impact and huge contribution to the betterment of the society and to the lives of people. Such award is usually given to notable people working in the fields of public service, education, science and technology, industry, and mass media.
