ABCollege Basic Ed. Students Lead the 14th National Science Quest

The ABCollege Elementary, Junior and Senior High School students, true to the legacy of providing affordable quality education, came home triumphant from the 14th National Science Quest – Private Schools Category, on February 10 – 12, 2017 in Baguio City. The group arrived last February 15, 2017 laden with medals, trophies and big smiles from their victorious campaign in the said competition.  All of ABCollege contingents were able to clinch a place in the national competition with several of them taking the top spot, besting contestants from various private schools all over the country

The winning pupils from the Elementary department were: Isagani Miguel A. Ranillo, Champion, Science Quiz-Grade VI after garnering a perfect score over 39 other contestants.  He was also the Third Runner-up in the Environmental Quiz – Grade VI, Individual Category. Rigil Kent A. Sy was declared champion in the Environmental Quiz IV- Team Category and eighth placer in the Math Quiz – Grade IV.  Alger Leigh L. Ageas emerged champion in the Environmental Quiz- Grade VI, Team Category with 12 competing teams and First Runner-Up in the Science Quiz- Grade VI competition having 40 contestants. Andrea Viktoria M. Caño, champion in both the Environmental Quiz- Grade V Individual and Team Categories. Stephanie A. Romarate, Champion in the Environmental Quiz – Grade IV, Individual Category besting 22 other contestants and got the Second Runner-Up spot in the Science Quiz- Grade IV competition with 37 contestants. Theojay Clarence L. Tañan came out as champion in the Science Quiz- Grade VI competition with 37 contestants, First Runner- Up, Environmental Quiz Grade VI, Individual Category having 23 contestants and Sixth Place, Math Quiz competition.  Ron Mishael P. Patangan was declared Third Runner- Up in the Environmental Quiz V, Individual Category, and Sixth Placer in the Science Quiz – V competition with 36 contestants.  Pauline Deonne L. Comidoy and Breanna Louise A. Ranillo, Grades III and I respectively, clinched the First Runner – Up spot in the Science Quiz Competition – Team Category. Mary Therese Janine U. Paye and Ma. Alyssa Rose T. Ellogot the Second Runner-up spot in the “On the Spot Poster-Making Contest”, Grade III and Grade VI categories, respectively. Pauline Deonne L. Comidoy, Gianna Cassandra B. Muncada and Brianna Louise A. Ranillo, competing as a team, gained the Sixth Place in the Science – Tech, Intermediate Level, and Anne Maxine A. Ranillo, placed seventh in the Math Quiz- Grade IV. These victorious pupils were coached by Mrs. Rothel P.Laranjo, Mrs. Lucille B. Tagulo, Ms. Glorilie M. Santander, Mr. Kevin N. Ochoterena and Mr. Von Lester Cotejo.

The winning streak continued with the Junior and Senior High School contingents.  Anne Margarette A. Cabalida was declared Champion in two competitions, the Science Quiz and Environmental Quiz – for Grade IX. The science project study entitled ”Feasibility of Durian Peelings as Plyboard” of Reignheart Lord B. Hongoy, Matthew G. Calunsag and John Francis S. Narvaez clinched the top spot in the Science Investigatory Project competition, Grade XI category. The team of Diana Maxynne G. Barinque, Douglas A. Marimon, Neem Vivien G. Acama and Maedy R. Tepacia was declared champion in the Science Quiz – High School, Team Category.  Grade XI student, Mikko Angelo E. Llido, was declared 1st Runner up in the Search for Mr. Kalikasan. He also got the special award, Best in Sports Wear and was declared, Mr. Intelligence.  Mary Frauline C. Inding placed second in the Impromptu Speaking competition, Senior High School category. Collage Making contestants Cleovy Denise R. Piñero and Maedy R. Tepacia, landed on the second spot in the Grades VII and Grade XI categories, respectively. Senior High School students Arnold James C. Macoto, Reignheart Lord B. Hongoy, Matthew G. Calunsag and Aljun Dale G. Postigo, as a team, got the second spot in the Techno Quiz. Aljun Dale also secured the second place in the Damath competition – Senior High Schoool Category.

The team of Maedy R. Tepacia, Arnold James C. Macoto, Kathleen May P. Bolando and Mary Frauline C. Inding which competed in the Science Quiz- Senior High School Category took the third place. Alfonso Adrian P. Amatong placed fourth in the Environmental Quiz- Grade VIII while Jurgen Los Baños and Douglas A. Marimon secured the fifth spot in the Poster Making- Junior High School Category and Science Quiz for Grade VIII, respectively.  Kathleen May P. Bolando, Arnold James C. Macoto and Maedy R. Tepacia’s team placed fifth in the Environmental Quiz- Senior High School Category. Krystal Claire A. Talaboc and Maedy R. Tepacia placed six in the Collage Making – Grade IX and Science Quiz- Grade XI competitions, respectively while Ma. Zeara C. Castolo placed seventh in the Collage Making contest for Grade X students. Other students who were National Qualifiers included Reinhold Beckham S. Ortega, Impromptu Speaking, Grade VII, Alyssa Andrea P. Amatong, Sci-Writing, Grade VII, Lloyd Dave M. Batoon, Environmental Quiz, Grade VIII, Blanche Lucil B. Ortiz, Sci-Writing, Grade X and Krisha Lou T. Suya, Math Quiz, Grade VII.

 These students were under the tutelage of Mrs. Revie Badiang, Mrs. Ma. Marlie Cadavedo, Mrs. Christie Angel Alensub and Engr. Nelfred Tolentino.“The weather in Baguio at that time was extremely cold and travel fatigue started to set in. However, it did not stop the said students from performing well.  The time and effort exerted by everyone during the preparation until the contest proper truly paid off. On top of that, the students still had fun during the competition, “the coaches collectively expressed. “We thank our students for their diligence, dedication and commitment. We likewise thank their parents for their trust and full support to all of us throughout the entire exciting journey,” they added.

In addition, Dr. Lilia B. Uycoco, the Vice President for Academic Affairs said, “The College commits itself to further support and encourage our students to participate in relevant co-curricular activities and competitions just like this one, aiding them to develop their intelligence, skills, talents and character. This complements the continuing and collaborative effort of the administration, faculty members and staff in ensuring and maintaining a high, rigorous, and consistent academic standard in the various academic levels in this institution. “In behalf of the ABCollege community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the national winners. Your successes are indeed products of commitment, determination and hardwork of both the contestants and coaches.
